Hellenic Kindergarten: Top 10 Lessons Every Hellenic Needs to Learn

All the way from the Oracle at the home office in Delphi Greece, here are your Top 10 Lessons Every Hellenic Needs to Learn:

10. Share everything: Give back what you have received, and share the load of the unfortunate. Give what you have.

9. Play fair: Make just judgments, deal kindly with everyone, and be jealous of no one. Obey the law.

8. Don’t hit people: Control yourself, control anger, and shun murder. Down-look no one, speak well of everyone, but despise a slanderer. Keep yourself from insolence.

7. Clean up your own mess: Gratify without harming, and do not begin to be insolent. Venture into danger prudently, but do not abandon honor. Act when you know.

6. Don’t take things that aren’t yours: Shun what belongs to others, and gain possessions justly. Control the eye, and acquire wealth justly. Work for what you can own.

5. Say you’re sorry when you hurt somebody: If you are a stranger act like one, and be kind to friends. Choose what is divine, and repent of sins.

4. Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you: Be fond of fortune, and pray for happiness. Benefit yourself, and do not be discontented by life. Be grateful.

3. Live a balanced life- learn some and think some and draw and paint and play and work some everyday: Know what you have learned, and be a seeker of wisdom. Pursue harmony, and do not tire of learning.

2. When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands, and stick together: Respect your parents, intend to get married, and educate your [children]. Help your friends, and associate with your peers. Guard and love friendship.

…and the #1 lesson every Hellenic needs to learn…

1. Take a nap every afternoon: Live together meekly, and do away with enmities. Nothing to excess.

* This list was compiled by combining portions of Robert Fulghum’s All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten (Ballantine Books, 15th Revised Edition, 2004) with portions of the Maxims of Delphi handed down by the Seven Sages of Greece.
